Charles Rangel (D-AT&T/Verizon) is facing major pressure from inside the Democratic Party to step down as Ways and Means Chairman for tax and ethics violations. Asked whether he’d remain Chairman, he answered “You bet your life.” Let’s see how that turns out. Update: He did, in fact, step down as Chairman, and may not run for re-election.

Joe Conasan does a great job taking Republicans to town for this “phony indignation” over Charles Rangel’s actions, including a recap of their stalling during the DeLay investigations and John Boehner’s golfing junkets with commodities traders.
